National Disability Awareness Month. The Office of Disability Rights (ODR), in collaboration with several other DC government agencies, is hosting the 2008 DC Disability Awareness Conference. The office will coordinate Disability Mentoring Days, a program to promote career development for students and job-seekers with disabilities through job shadowing and hands-on career exploration.

School Garden Week. About 80 District schools will host tours, workshops and games to celebrate DC School Garden Week October 6-11. School gardens provide wildlife habitat, absorb stormwater runoff, beautify schoolyards, and nourish students' minds and bodies. New Bike Station. Mayor Adrian M. Fenty, Department of Transportation (DDOT) Interim Director Frank Seales, Jr. and Ward 6 Councilmember Tommy Wells participated in a groundbreaking ceremony on Sept. 26 for the Bicycle Transit Center at Union Station. The 1,700 square foot facility will be the first of its kind on the East Coast and is expected to open for business in spring 2009.Read more >>
